Roll Pallets, mobile safety steps and
stillages
So what do we do?
Roll Pallet
Roll Pallet
Steps and Stillages Ltd can manufacture a complete range of
Roll Pallets
for the retail and distribution industry. Mobile Roll pallets are used in the main for the storage and movement of goods around a warehouse or for the transportation
and distribution of goods on lorries. With Health and Safety legislation increasing all of the time, the focus on Manual Handling
and safety is becoming increasingly important and the use of
wheeled trolleys and Roll Pallets are playing an important
roll in reducing handling incidents. Steps and Stillages Ltd
manufacture and hold in stock a range of
varoius
roll pallet products to suit all industries and applications. We can also
custom design
Roll Pallets to customer's specifications to suit specific applications or product sizes. This bespoke service generally carries
only a minimal cost increase and on medium sized to larger runs is negligible.
Steps and Stillages Ltd can offer a wide range of wheel
sizes, bearings and tyres, which can be fitted to all our
Roll Pallets
and can have either 2, 3 or 4 sides, of ladder
style infill construction .
Our roll cages come in all shapes and sizes from basic 2 sided units to
full security Roll cages with mesh panel sides and lid which are
lockable to prevent the theft of any products in the roll cage. In the UK, Roll
Cages fall within 3 main configuration types- A Frame nesting
roll
cages, Z Base nesting roll cages and Demountable roll cages. A Frame nesting roll cages fold up when not in use and nest into the
back of each, similar to shopping trolleys. Z base roll cages fold up
but nest into each other diagonally. Demountable roll cages come apart,
i.e. the sides detach from the base in simple steps and then can be
stacked up. we can make
Roll Cages here in the UK at our
modern factory in Kettering using modern robot welding lines and automated equipment. All steel used is prime steel, predominantly
sourced within the UK, and conforms to the required test certification. The customers name can be stamped onto a nameplate if required
or for the ultimate in asset security, we can continually stamp
"property of xxxxxxxxx" into the tube work. This custom roll-marking is an
effective form of theft deterrent.
Mobile safety steps
Mobile stepsJust about every warehouse has pallet racking in of some form to store product. Access to these pallets, without taking them down from
the racking by forklift, is restricted to the use of mobile steps, or
Mobile Step Ladders. These
mobile ladders, sometimes called picking
ladders, can be pushed manually around the warehouse so an operator or picker can climb up and choose the item he or she requires.
Mobile steps can be made in various configurations, with our
12 step ladder having a platform height of over 3 metres which allows
access to almost 5 metres. Safety is paramount these days and
Steps and Stillages Ltd range of mobile steps for the warehouse are
manufactured in the UK from prime quality steel. A braking system is fitted to disengage the swivel wheels so as to allow the
safety ladder to sit squarely on the ground to ensure good stability when in use. Handrails are fitted both sides to allow safe passage up and
down and a crows nest surround secures the user when at the top. A kick plate is also fitted for additional security. The individual treads
are manufactured for good grip, especially when wet.
Safety sticker
is fitted highlighting the do`s and don`ts of the warehouse ladder. Mobile steps can also be used for access to platforms or to lorries
allowing safe access for personnel to climb various heights.
Mobile Ladders
If these mobile ladders are required to be used as
access platforms, then the top panel is removed and a safety chain fitted. The brake
unit must be engaged and is especially important for when stepping of
the mobile ladder onto the access platform and descending the
steps to ensure that they do not slide underneath you.
Mobile ladders are not only used in warehouses, but also in retail shops especially
in DIY and furniture retailers. These
mobile ladders are restricted in use to trained employees only and not for the general public. Often
notices are fitted stating this and belts or chains fitted across the steps preventing access.
Stillages
Box sided Stillage
Steel
sided Stillages, box pallet, skips or bins are one of the most commonly used pieces of materials handling equipment. Just about
every business probably has some in one form or another, whether used as part of the production batching process, storage of parts,
or even just for the collection of rubbish waiting to be recycled.
Steps and Stillages Ltd manufactures a broad range of
stillages for all
types of industry. Many
stillages are custom designed to suit the application, perhaps a box size or weight capacity may be critical to
some applications. We are frequently contacted and asked to design a stillage to suit a certain application
or for safety.
mesh infilled stillage
Mesh
sided Stillages tend to be fitted with mesh infill sides. Units can be in all different configurations from 3 sided units to 4 sided with
full drop front doors or alternatively half drop. Half drop fronts allow good access into the box pallet whilst still retaining good load
retention properties. Most stillages can be securely stacked on top of each other to save space. The box pallet may be mounted on
cupped feet with similar cups fitted to the top of the unit to receive another cage above. Some applications require a standard wooden
pallet to be converted into a secure 4 sided unit or
pallet converter. These
stillages are ideal to convert a cheap wooden pallet into a
secure structure and then disassemble and store when not in use. These pallet converters can again be stacked on top of each other,
when full of product and in use to save space. The sides would be typically made of tube and inlaid with mesh panels,
ladder style, to secure small items when in use.
Automotive Stillage
The automotive industry is a large user of
automotive stillages both as second and third tier suppliers manufacturing small component
parts and also for the supply of major items such as fully assembled engines and wheels and tyres. All items are bought to the assembly
line in box pallets ready to have the parts taken out and fitted. When empty, the stillage is removed and replaced with a full one with
the empty units being returned to the supplier ready for the next delivery.
Plastic Box
Plastic Tote boxProbably the most humble part of a modern hi-tech distribution network is the plastic box. Plastic boxes, commonly referred to as
plastic tote boxes are used throughout industry for both storage of products and movement. Most plastic boxes offer the advantage of
being able to both stack and nest to offer great flexibility. Stacking boxes are available in all sizes to suit any application we also hold
stock of all types of plastic container in many varying colours. A common use for plastic boxes is as industrial containers, whether as
storage containers or recycling containers. These plastic containers can then hold any type of product in any size required, or if necessary
in a
plastic bulk box on a
plastic pallet.
Attached Lidded Container
Another variation of the plastic box is the
attached lidded container, or ALC for short. The attached lidded container is a plastic tote box
with integral hinged lids that can open,
in a simple step, for nesting and close to seal up the box and give the container stacking
properties.
Steps and Stillages Ltd also stocks a range of second hand plastic tote boxes available at competitive prices. The European
Standard Range is a modular stacking container which is based on a standard range of non-nesting plastic boxes made to a
pan-European specification and includes plastic crates, plastic bins and plastic trays. This range allows differing types of plastic container
to stack on a common footprint size to suit varying products.
Plastic Pallets
Plastic Pallet
Steps and Stillages Ltd supply a vast assorted array of materials handling equipment centred around the
Plastic Pallet. The traditional wooden pallet is still used in many industries, however, an increasing number of applications require hygienic and washable materials
handling equipment for which
plastic pallets are an ideal solution for this problem being both steam cleanable and splinter-free. They
also do not contain any nails which can result in rust. A variation in our range of
plastic pallets is the bulk box or folding box pallet. The
bulk box is based on a plastic
pallet but has integral hinged plastic sides which form a stacking plastic box and can also fold flat when
not in use saving space for storage. Half drop plastic doors allow access into the bulk box even when stacked. The folding box, as well
as the
Plastic Pallets, are available in many sizes and configurations, some light weight and some heavy duty and available from stock.
Pallet collars are also available.
Post Pallet
A post pallet is a steel
pallet with corner posts, either fixed or removable which allow the
post pallets to be stacked to save space. We
manufacture post
pallets to any size or specification
Lorry
Straps
Ratchet straps
Most lorries travelling up and down our motorways have some form of
load control equipment for the load restraint needs of the load.
The most common form is the
lorry strap, or ratchet strap. These straps vary in size depending on the load and the size of vehicle. A
5 ton heavy duty ratchet strap is an industry standard unit and widely used across the transport industry. Another variation is the over
centre buckle strap used in box trailers for securing roll pallets when in use. This type of ratchet strap hooks into
tracking down the
side of the trailer and secures the load. Ratchet straps are also used as cargo straps on large vehicles and allow loads to be lashed
to the lorry bed. Curtain sided trailers have straps fitted to fasten the curtains to
aid load control. These curtain straps, which are a
form of ratchet strap, often get
damaged and need replacing which we can supply from stock.
Load Bars
We can offer other methods of cargo restraint other than ratchet straps. These are
load bars or
cargo stays. There are 2 types of
Load bars available. Rigid load bars sit in cups which are located in
load bar tracking down the side of box trailers and are adjusted
to suit the load. The other type are
sprung load bars which spring straight into the tracking and can be moved simply be pressing the
load bar inwards to release. Cargo stays are cramps which are similar to load bars but have rubber pads on their ends which negate
the need for tracking to be fitted. Cargo stays can also be fitted vertically to secure unusual
loads.
Garden Center trolley
All garden centres need garden centre trolleys for customers to
use when shopping in their garden centres. These trolleys are
similar
to shopping trolleys in supermarkets but have 2 large
diameter mobile wheels to enable the garden centre trolley to roll
over rough or un-even ground. The trolley is well balanced and
mobile with the
axle under the centre of the garden centre trolley
making it
comfortable for all types of customer. The trolley has a well
proportioned mesh basket allowing a mix of items to be placed
inside. It is a simple step to push the garden centre trolley up on
it's end to store when not in use.
All our garden centre
trolleys are zinc plated in finish, the same shiny coating
as a shopping trolley. Our trolley handle is also plastic
coated
which gives a nice comfortable feel to the hand when the customer is
using the garden centre trolley. Many garden centres use
a mix of
trolleys and shopping trolleys depending on the floor surface of the
garden centre. Our range of trolleys varies allowing for
each garden
centre to choose the type of garden centre trolley they
require. Our best selling trolley is the GCR1 garden centre trolley
which is a robust general purpose trolley suitable for all types of
application. We also have the compact GCR1 garden centre trolley
which is a smaller cousin and suitable to smaller garden centres or
for narrow aisles.
Many garden centres have nurseries attached to grow their own
products. We produce a nursery barrow for these nurseries, although
any customers use standard picking trolleys or garden centre
trolleys.
