Just about every warehouse has pallet racking in of some form to store product. Access to these pallets, without taking them down from
the racking by forklift, is restricted to the use of mobile steps, or
Mobile Step Ladders. These
mobile ladders, sometimes called
picking
ladders, can be pushed manually around the warehouse so an operator or picker can climb up and choose the item he or she requires.
Mobile steps can be made in various configurations, with our
12 step ladder having a platform height of over 3 metres which allows
access to almost 5 metres. Safety is paramount these days and
Steps and Stillages Ltd range of mobile steps for the warehouse are
manufactured in the UK from prime quality steel. A braking system is fitted to disengage the swivel wheels so as to allow the
safety
ladder to sit squarely on the ground to ensure good stability when in use. Handrails are fitted both sides to allow safe passage up and
down and a crows nest surround secures the user when at the top. A kick plate is also fitted for additional security. The individual treads
are manufactured for good grip, especially when wet.
Safety sticker
is fitted highlighting the do`s and don`ts of the warehouse ladder. Mobile steps can also be used for access to platforms or to lorries
allowing safe access for personnel to climb various heights.
Mobile Ladders
If these mobile ladders are required to be used as
access platforms, then the top panel is removed and a safety chain fitted. The brake
unit must be engaged and is especially important for when stepping of
the mobile ladder onto the access platform and descending the
steps to ensure that they do not slide underneath you.
Mobile ladders are not only used in warehouses, but also in retail shops especially
in DIY and furniture retailers. These
mobile ladders are restricted in use to trained employees only and not for the general public. Often
notices are fitted stating this and belts or chains fitted across the steps preventing access.
