This safety feature is to stop personnel climbing the mobile step if the lever brake has not been engaged. When the ladder is mobile and being moved around, the climb prevention bar protrudes through the treads to stop a foot being placed on the tread. Once the step is in position and the brake lever used to set the step down safely on the ground, the bar automatically moves inwards out of the way.
